Education

I’m tired of our kids not meeting standards in school because of inadequate funding. I’m tired of our public tax money going to private schools.  I’m tired of our property taxes going through the roof. I’m tired of our kids having to worry about and practicing for someone coming to shoot up their school. I’m tired of being told what books our kids can or cannot read.  I will work to have our tax dollars go to public schools and let professional educators determine our curriculum with parent support.

I can’t believe in the 21st century we have to talk about whether women should be able to make their own health care decisions.  These are basic human rights.  Why should the government be determining women’s health care? The citizens of Ohio have spoken and it’s time for the legislature to respect that vote.

Women’s Rights

The mental health situation in our country is worsening.  The pandemic increased this, especially among kids.  We see increased numbers of suicide, drug addiction, homelessness and mass shootings.  Have you had enough of hearing about it? Let’s finally address it.

Mental Health

I believe in the Second Amendment and people’s right to own firearms to hunt, or to protect themselves, their families, and their homes.  I also believe in gun safety.  Justice Antonin Scalia wrote “...Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.”  I believe, and a majority of Ohioans (including gun owners), believe there should be background checks for all gun sales, training and permits for concealed carry, extreme risk orders, and elimination of the stand your ground law.  These laws would not affect law-abiding gun owners in Ohio.

I believe in gun safety. As Ohio has loosened gun laws, the number of gun deaths has increased. A majority of Ohioans (including many gun owners) believe in background checks for all gun sales and conceal carry permits that include training. Recent legislation allowing permitless conceal carry is anti-police and opposed by various law enforcement groups. Guns should be stored so they are not accessible to children, thieves, or those in crisis who may harm themselves or others. While I wholly support the Second Amendment, I also support gun safety for all Ohioans. What about our rights to feel safe in our communities?

Second Amendment

Energy is part of the critical infrastructure of our country. Why limit ourselves to just oil and gas? Why do we want to make new energy more difficult and expensive when we could encourage solar and wind energy to supplement our energy use and become energy independent? In addition, the development of these technologies will create new jobs like First Solar’s new $680 million facility near Toledo which will create 500 jobs.
